ALTITUDE GROWN – 1270 meters above sea level

LOCATION – Cristais Paulistas, Alta Mogiana, Sao Paulo

PROCESS – Natural process, sun dried, 30 days resting period

CERTIFICATIONS - Rainforest Alliance Certified and Alta Mogiana Specialty Coffee Association (AMSC)

    VARIETY – Catucai

SCA SCORE - 85 - regarded as "Excellent"

This 'Fazenda' (farm) is owned and run by the Oliveira family in the Alta Mogiana region, Brazil. They focus on producing specialty and high end coffees with acute attention to all areas of production, including the environmental and social aspects of their business.

The farm is relatively small with 20% constituting of a protected nature reserve for the native species. The farm is fertilised with organic compounds as the main source of amino acids, to increase the productivity and quality of crops.

On the farm they specialise in one variety of coffee - Catucai. As well as planting eucalyptus and mahogany trees to provide shade and a useful source of timber.

The sweetness of the coffee is a result of the coffee varietal Catucai and the 'natural' processing method. The sugar in the coffee cherry is passed on to the bean as the coffee cherries are dried together, removing the husks just after the coffee reaches a perfect humidity of 11.5 %.

    Frequently Asked Questions:

    What strength is the coffee?

We advise this coffee to be a strength of 3.5 out of 5. Punchy but not over powering.

    Are the beans oily?

No, these beans are not oily, if you have particularly sensitive machine/equipment, these beans should be perfect.

    Where to store the coffee?

We recommend storing the coffee in a cool, dark, dry cupboard, before you open them. Once opened, reseal the bag and store in the same way.

How many coffees do the bags serve?

250g - serves 13-15 coffees. 500g - serves 26-30 coffees. 1kg - serves 55-65 coffees. We recommend one kilo bag to serve 2 coffees a day, to last a month.

    What's the best before date?

All our coffees are roasted to order, meaning they couldn't be fresher and will stay tasty for at least 6 months, unopened and up to 6 weeks once opened (as long as resealed).

    Why plant trees?

    1. Restoring animals’ habitats, which, in turn helps increase biodiversity by giving endemic species the chance to thrive
    2. Removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by putting it back into the plants and soil, and therefore helping to reduce global warming
    3. Cleaning the air by removing pollutant gases such as nitrogen oxides, ammonia, sulphur dioxide and ozone by trapping these gases in their leaves and bark
    4. Restoring local ecosystems that have been destroyed by deforestation or other external factors
    5. Reducing the impact of flooding and soil erosion, which helps to protect nearby communities and their livelihoods
    6. Providing an income for tree planters in lower income countries.

      Smells incredible

This is a fantastic tasting coffee, smooth and rich. The best coffee I've tried with oat milk, doesn't get overpowered by the oat milk.

      Signature Gold - Never disappoints!

I was recommended the Signature Gold from a friend and this is now my goto bean. I normally make milk based coffees and this is simply delicious, smooth, chocolaty and always leaves me wanting another. Great fluffy crema and that is from using a 1975 Olympia Cremina.

      Ridiculously Smooth!

I’ve been buying and testing lots of coffee recently and this was by some distance the best I have tried. I’ve already bought some more!

      A lovely balanced coffee

My first time ordering from West Berkshire Roastery and I am very impressed. First off the ordering process is straight forward and I was kept well updated on the progress of my order, shipping was super fast and it was nice to see that the coffee was roasted the same day it was dispatched. I also love the fact that they will plant a tree for each order.

After leaving the beans to off gas for 4 days I tried them in the clever dripper and was impressed with the depth of flavour I was getting, especially for a single origin Brazilian. Next up was a 1:2 shot pulled in 35 seconds on the Cafelat robot and this is where the coffee really shined, it was thick and syrupy and hit all the tasting notes. I only drink plant based milk but this works super well with oat milk.

      SIGNATURE GOLD

Currently this is my new favourite coffee, not too strong, well balanced and with a great flavour. My order of 2kg came in 4 bags of 500g which was an added bonus.

      Brilliant

I've tried few famous brands of espresso beans, this one is definitely good quality and value. Follow their brewing instruction and you will have perfect cup of coffee. Enjoy

Signature Gold - It's a decent cup of coffee

I wanted to try out Signature Gold based on a friends recommendation, it makes a good cup of coffee certainly a marked improvement over any beans you're going to buy in a supermarket. For personal preference i'd prefer a darker roast it's not quite a rich as I was expecting but it still makes a solid cup. I'll probably give one of their darker roasts a try next time.
