I have come back to WBR's coffees after some time trying other roasters. I was always a fan of Black Gold, although Signature was a close second, for espresso. For health and sleep reasons I now limit my caffeine intake and so Simmer Down has become my final, after-lunch coffee around 1.30pm daily. I enjoy the great taste and find it still feels like a full strength brew.
Recipe: 13g ground at a 33 setting on Niche Zero (original), 95C water. Inverted Aeropress method. 75g bloom phase with five stirrings back and forth. At 45 seconds add another 75g water and stir again, at 90 seconds top up to 210g of total water. Leave until three mins, add cap and filter, and carefully invert with cap held over filter. Begin slow and gentle press at 3mins 30s all the way down including past the "hissing".
Whichever WBR coffee you prefer, please drink and enjoy.
I wanted a strong, but not overpowering, coffee for Espresso, with no acidity, and this roast really delivered. really smooth and strong, not bitter, with a kind of natural sweetness. I have found my new favourite.
Great customer service too.
The reason why i keep buying from West Berkshire Coffee. Thid is the best decaf i have had by a long way
Black Gold coffee is just what I was looking for. It tastes so fresh with an incredible amount of crema when extracted. Incredibly, the roasting date was the date of order and it arrived within 2 days. It’s so hard to find coffee companies that take this much care with their coffee but West Berkshire are one of the best. I’ll definitely be ordering from them again.
This was a first time purchase and I was delighted to receive coffee beans of such freshness that the kitchen was filled with wonderful aromas even before brewing. The espresso made with an Oracle Jet was full of chocolatey, nutty nuances and had a thick crema.
The Black Gold bean is very nice - well balanced, strong flavour and perfectly suited to my espresso machine.
I have purchased 3 different types of beans to try and Rwanda Hills is definitely my favourite. Full of flavour great quality coffee, highly recommend!
Wonderful coffee, I have been looking for a clean decaf coffee and I am pleased to report that this one meets all my expectations. Will buy again and again!
I liked this one, a bit milder than the other ones I have bought here. Tastes great as a espresso.
My partner bought me a bag of the Signature Gold Organic whole bean for my birthday and it is simply THE BEST coffee…as soon as it was finished I’ve bought a 1kg bag which will hopefully last me a while!
Quick delivery, good prices and amazing coffee - would highly recommend!
Love this roast, it's enough to get that "dark roast" fix without being nasty bitter on my espresso. I use a VBM dommobar with niche grinder and get decent consistency in my shots well into weeks 3 and 4 post roast.
Love the coffee which we saw and tried in Rufus coffee shop and it’s even better at home (no offence to Rufus). And the fact it’s locally roasted is a bonus too.
I asked about a coffee to suit my taste and Alex from the company suggested this and it was very good, however I would like a very strong taste if that is possible.
Finally I can drink more than one coffee a day😁
Absolutely delicious and well balanced blend😋
If you’ve ever wondered what it would feel like to drink competence, Berkshire Roastery’s Organic Signature Gold gives you the answer.
It’s smooth but not boring, rich but not showy - like the coffee equivalent of that one guy at the party who actually knows how to fix things but doesn’t tell you unless you ask.
There’s a hint of natural sweetness that shows up just long enough to make you question if you actually need sugar (you don’t).
And the roast? Spot on. As if someone finally realized that “burnt” and “bold” are not synonyms.
In a world full of coffees that either taste like regret or vanilla-scented ambition, Signature Gold quietly sits back, confident you’re smart enough to notice quality without needing a TED Talk about it.
Highly recommend it - assuming you like your coffee the way you should: without a side of existential dread.
Love this coffee as an espresso, a bit sweet for me as a milk based drink.
I use 20 grams of beans in my Rocket Evolution
This is the best organic coffee I have tried out of half a dozen award winners.
I make it in a Bialetti stove top, and when made right it can be seriously good. Smooth but not bland, just the right amount of bite. The last couple of sips are extremely nice, chocolatey and sweet.
You can drink more of it as its quite moderate in caffeine.
I tired a 1kg bag of Organic Signature Gold recently and wasn't disappoined! Lovely extraction for espresso and drinking it as a long black. Looking forward to trying White Gold next!
